The Canada Atlantic District
Church of the Nazarene
The Canada Atlantic District encompasses the Atlantic provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Atlantic Nazarenes are a hearty people, passionately committed to following Christ.
Our spiritual heritage is as deep as the history of the coastal region, rich in the holiness tradition.
We believe that we are in a day when God is doing a “new thing’ in our midst. He continues to write His Story in our day … in the here and now. This brings a spirit anticipation of what lies in store for the people of God. It is this motivation that drives our engagement with the Maritime culture for Kingdom purposes.
Living in poverty takes away opportunities for hope. Like many women in Liberia, Teta* didn’t feel like she had the choice to dream of a future. There, women and girls are particularly vulnerable to things that drive poverty, like lack of access to education, child marriage and teenage pregnancy, and abuse.
When you’re caught and unable to provide for your family, it can feel impossible to imagine anything else.
The Church of the Nazarene in Liberia saw that need, and women there developed a solution: vocational training classes that would enable women and girls to develop small businesses, experience dignity, and become respected contributors to their communities and families. Through the Empowering Women With Dignity Project, women and girls are joining together to learn, dream, and do.
“It has made great impact in my life and many others, which I am proud of,” Teta shares.
Through the NCM Christmas Project, you can highlight dignity and empower hope, helping women and girls create a different story.
What if more women could experience opportunities for a different future?
In Liberia, only 17 percent of girls receive secondary-level schooling, and 36 percent are married before they turn 18. Nazarene churches in Liberia joined together to create the Empowering Women With Dignity project to offer another option with dignity.
Through this year’s NCM Christmas Project, you can provide for the classes changing the lives of women and girls. By giving to this project, you are allowing women and girls without the opportunities to learn to educate themselves with skills that will help pull them out of poverty. But you’re also communicating that you recognize the dignity they already possess—the dignity inherent in all of us.
Together, we can build hope for a better future.
Will you help women and girls write their own future?
